More later. ......
Today is the last day at one of the best compaines I've ever worked at. Seems like things have been accelerated quite a bit as I tidy up loose ends, say good bye, & wish people well. I leave Sunday, November 25, 2007 for Houston, TX. I'll be there for training on things like:
In a few minutes I'll be taking my 1999 Toyota to Car Max. It has 176,000 miles, needs a new O2 Sensor, needs a drivers side mirror, new tire, the drivers side window will go down, but not back up. The dealer asked if I had any payments left on it (??? I said I had about 18 more months & he laughed & said you'd be surprised). When he printed off an offer of $1,200 I thought he was telling me that's how much is going to cost me to have them take the car off my hands!
Last night we went to the local roller rink where I tried on roller blades for the first time. Ben had a go at roller skates & the two of us hit the rink together. He did really well his first time out. As we were making our way around the rink, hugging the walls, slipping, sliding, etc, we heard an announcement.
It asked that everyone clear the floor due to the parent with the broken ankle. As I look behind us, I see this poor woman crippled by pain & laying on the floor. Everyone clears the floor to wait for the ambulance to come & take her away. Its about 15 minutes before they enter the building & during this time, the entire population of the rink is watching this woman just lay there.
She's obviously in pain, & her son & others with her are pretty upset as well. The rink had just opened a few minutes ago when as Ben said "Igby went down"! Ya, bud she sure did.
So this being my first attempt on in line skates, & quickly rethink my position & remove them from my feet. Just as I turn my skates in, there's a huge applause from the rink as the EMT's lift the woman on a stretcher & take her off the rink. I wonder if they're cheering for her or just want to get back to skating as, as soon as she's off, (not even out of the building) the lights go off, the disco ball goes on, & pop music blares, & its an all skate & the kids go nuts getting back out on the floor!
Must be a common occurrence, I guess.
